They say every good startup gets started in a garage... in our case, it was a former hairdressing salon, as we needed a sink with running water. In those humble quarters, we started the development of our system for fast detection of dangerous bacteria in food.
For food producers, there’s nothing worse than an important customer calling to say they’ve found “something”. I experienced this working Italy’s and Germany's fresh-cut industry. Threatened recalls, temporary shut-downs, and our workers’ stricken faces, drove me to seek a truly fast testing method for agrifood.
Back in Israel, I contacted a colleague from a previous project, Vladimir Glukhman, who had once mentioned a promising fast-testing technology.
My background in design leads to creative thinking; perhaps this technology could be applied to food? It could. And because living in Israel, the “Startup Nation” makes risk-taking commonplace, founding a startup seemed a logical step.
It’s lots of work but I enjoy it, whether physical labor and strategic thinking.
