Can Chinese be as popular as English in the world? We are trying.
Everyone in the world believes that learning Chinese is very difficult. But is it the truth? For a foreigner to carry-on daily life in US, he has to memorize about 8000 English words, but for a foreigner lives in China, he only needs to memorize about 1000 Chinese characters. How come Chinese is hard to pick up?
The main product Speedy Mandarin (SM) currently provides is a comprehensive Chinese teaching and learning (T&A) system, including the Chinese character-oriented curriculum and textbook and Web & mobile App to facilitate the T&A activities.
As designed, 16 Chinese characters can be picked up in 2 hours, including the pronunciations, glyphs, meanings, the commonly used words can be formed (only with learned characters), and sentences can be structured (only with learned characters). Thus within 120 learning hours, one can master around 1000 Chinese characters, which is sufficient for carrying on daily life in Chinese. In addition, a cultural exchange and business oriented social network using Chinese as the main communication channel will be provided to the global market in near future.
The distinguished features of SM’s product are as follows:
1. The curriculum and textbook
a. Chinese character-oriented, i.e. individual Chinese character as learning block, while conventional approach is mainly scenario-based or word-oriented.
b. For Chinese characters, learning the link directly between pronunciation and character script, while conventional approach is learning the link through transliteration (pinyin), which raises memorization workload
c. De-emphasize learning grammar, reducing memorization load, which is inevitable in conventional approach.
d. Learner centered as teacher only instructs and corrects, while in conventional teacher centered approach too much lecturing is time consuming.
e. Curriculum compilation (character selections, word formation, sentences structurization) is based on frequency of usage and other scientific method and analytics, while most similar language scenario-based products on the market are not supported by or lacking in systemic analysis.
2. SM learning App
a. Self-learning mode, which auto pronunciation (association with scripts appearance), practicing exercises and games, voice recognitions, auto pronunciation rating (helping learner practice and improve the pronunciation)
b. Teaching mode, which de-emphasize grammar, and stress intense drilling and interaction with coach.
c. In learning App, all characters and words are linked directly to their original module and translations. Learned characters/words are labeled differently with new characters/words
d. Learners can choose suitable instructors to conduct conversational practices and help them understand Chinese language and culture habits.
e. Teachers are running their own main page to attract learners.
