Skygauge is a small Canadian start-up creating a novel drone design. The company is currently developing the product in Shenzhen, China in co-operation with the HAX hardware accelerator. Find more information at

The internship will begin in Feb 2020 (flexible) and last for a minimum of 3 months on a part-time or full-time basis. An extension may be available depending on performance. The applicant must be legally permitted to work in China. The applicant is expected to work in the HAX Offices in Shenzhen, China.
The candidate will work on one of the following:
1. Testing environment development – Design, source and construct physical tools used in testing the drone. For example, building a rig to constrain the drone in place during testing.
2. Control Systems development – Model, simulate and analyze drone behavior from a controls perspective. For example, creating and automating a Simulink model of the drone flight.
3. Your proposal – We are happy to hear your thoughts on how you can improve the drone or the company. If you can convince us, your proposal can be your project.
We are looking for students or recent grads in the fields of Mechatronics, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering. The candidate must be a fluent English speaker, and special consideration will be given to candidates who can also communicate in Chinese. We are looking for project or professional experience working with hardware (robotics, automotive, aero). Candidates with experience working in agile start-up environments will also be given special consideration.
We use the following tools, programs and skills extensively at Skygauge. Experience and proficiency in some or all the following Hard Skills is required. The more the better:
1. Solidworks
2. Rapid Prototyping techniques – 3D printing, laser cutting, machining, soldering, PCB layout…
3. Eagle
4. C++
5. LabVIEW or MATLAB + Simulink
6. Visual Studio
7. Arduino/Teensy microcontroller
