Startup Weekend is a 54-hour weekend event, during which groups of developers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and more pitch ideas for new startup companies, form teams around those ideas, and work to develop a working prototype, demo, or presentation by Sunday evening.
Despite the cold weather, with Hong Kong hitting a record low temperature of 3 degrees, startup enthusiasts gathered at Cocoon for 54 hours and pitched in front of 5 judges and a crowd of 100 people.
All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model:
- Anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers;
- Teams are formed around the top ideas (determined by popular vote);
- Then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation.
The weekend culminates with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.
